News / Linga back in service
FERRY services between Whalsay and the Shetland mainland have returned to normal on Monday after the Linga broke down on Saturday morning.
The council’s ferry services had to restrict the service to ‘foot passenger only’ for a while because the Linga could not be moved from the linkspan at Symbister.
Resources manager Colin Manson said on Monday that once the Linga had been moved the Hendra operated on the Linga’s timetable for the rest of the weekend.
Meanwhile engineers traced the problem to an electronic control board for which spares were kept at ferry headquarters at Sella Ness.
Repairs and extensive sea trials were carried out on Sunday.
Manson said ferry services wanted to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
