News / Air ambulance commemorated
A BRASS plaque to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the air ambulance service to Shetland will be unveiled at Sumburgh airport at noon on Wednesday.
A similar plaque will be unveiled at Kirkwall airport the previous day.
The plaques will carry the names of all the senior pilots who have served the air ambulance service in the northern isles over the past half century.
The plaques will be unveiled by Loganair president Scott Grier, along with Greville Johnston, who is chairman of both Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd and the Fresson Trust.
The plaques have been donated by the Fresson Trust, which was formed in 1991 to honour the memory Ted Fresson, the late civil aviation pioneer in the north of Scotland.
Long service medals will also be presented to airport firemen at the unveilings.
