News / Jazz line-up change
THE Phil Robson’s Immeasurable Code Quintet, playing at the Mareel on Saturday, had to change its line-up after bass player Michael Janisch’s brother was killed in a freak accident.
While Janisch is back in the States for the funeral, he has been replaced by Euan Burton, a regular bassist in the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.
Jeff Merrifield of Shetland Jazz Club said Saturday’s concert was a very special concert, as it brings together some of the finest jazz players ever to have visited Shetland.
Support comes from local jazz group Mahogany with their very distinctive brand of music.
As well as playing the Mareel gig, the quintet will be running a jazz master class workshop for Shetland Arts.
“Young people have already been recruited to take advantage of this opportunity to learn from the finest, but anyone else wishing to attend this workshop should contact Bryan Peterson at Shetland Arts,” Merrifield said.
Tickets are priced £11 (£9 concession) and are available from the Shetland Box office at www.shetlandboxoffice.org or telephone 01595 745 555.
