IN a busy week for Shetland hockey, Whalsay were crowned champions in the Mid Brae Inn Cup after pipping Burra in the high speed competition with five teams playing 15 minute games last Thursday.

Meanwhile the first games in the Grutness Trophy and Shearer Shield were played this week, where Burra got their own back by beating Whalsay 3-2 while Scalloway were defeated by Spurs 2-3.

Scalloway and Spurs had been unable to field a team in the Mid Brae Inn Cup, so they had joined forces and called themselves Scars.

This weekend sees the senior, veterans and mixed inter county teams take on Orkney this weekend in Kirkwall.

The next games in Shetland will be played on Tuesday 2 August when Burra play Delting in the Grutness Trophy and Zetland take on Juniors in the Shearer Shield.
