Letters / Unacceptable sheep escapes
The level of sheep escapes onto the A970 main road approximately one mile south of the Vidlin junction this year has been unacceptable; also on the B9071 Vidlin road.
I have personally seen five of these animals lying dead at the side of the road having been hit by vehicles this year.
The fencing in the area is in a terrible state and this is undoubtedly leading to the illegal incursion onto the road by these animals.
I am concerned for the wellbeing of these animals, but more importantly how long will it be before there is a serious accident as a result of collision or trying to avoid collision with one of these animals, which leads to serious injury or worse of a human?
It is long overdue for the Crofting Commission to take action against the people that are failing to keep the fencing fit for purpose.
