News / Mackay Brown talk
THE IMPORTANCE of community in Orkney author George Mackay Brown’s writing will be examined during a talk at the NAFC Marine Centre, in Scalloway, later this month.
Dr Tim Baker from the University of Aberdeen will speak about ‘George Mackay Brown and the Fiction of Community’ as part of the series of public lectures hosted by the Centre for Nordic Studies.
The centre plans to invite a series of expert speakers between now and October to share their knowledge on subjects of interest to the northern isles.
Centre for Nordic Studies staff researcher Silke Reeploeg said: “The lecture will give everyone a chance to hear more about Dr Baker’s ideas and about George Mackay Brown as a thinker of community.
“This is a free seminar and everyone is welcome. We hope a lively open discussion will follow afterwards.”
Dr Baker’s talk is on 24 April starting at 7.30pm.
