HOUSEHOLDERS in Shetland are being encouraged to join a national campaign to reduce energy prices.
Shetland West councillor Gary Robinson is urging local people to register with “The Big Switch” campaign being run by consumer magazine Which and online pressure group 38 Degrees.
The two organisations believe that if they can get enough people on board they can negotiate a collective bargain to reduce tariffs with the major energy suppliers.
Mr Robinson said: “Clearly fuel poverty is a big issue for everyone in Shetland. This initiative offers people a real opportunity to cut their home energy bills, and has the added benefit of being supported by a reputable organisation, the Consumers’ Association.
“I would urge everyone to sign up to this scheme. There’s no obligation to change your supplier at this stage, but at least you’ll find out how much you could save.”
The deadline for registering is 31 March and details can be found at https://www.whichbigswitch.co.uk/
