News / Henry released after Xmas behind bars

A YOUNG Shetland man was put on probation for one year and told to carry out 80 hours of community service after he appeared from custody for sentencing before Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Scott Henry, of Da Daal, West Burrafirth, had previously admitted assaulting and knocking a man unconscious outside the Aith Hall on 7 June last year, as well as possessing a kitchen knife in a public place, at Whitelaw Road, also in Aith, on the same day.

The 24 year old was taken into custody just before Christmas after he failed to attend appointments with social workers.

Sheriff Graeme Napier told Henry that the matter could have been dealt with before Christmas had he followed court orders.

Since Henry had by now spent the equivalent of six weeks in prison, Sheriff Napier ordered him to carry out community work while on probation.

Meanwhile, a 24 year old woman was fined £500 and told to pay her victim £250 compensation after pleading guilty to assaulting another woman outside Da Wheel Bar, on Lerwick’s Commercial Road, in the early hours of 28 December.

Gina Lola Love, of 10 Westerloch Crescent, Lerwick, admitted assaulting her victim by butting her on the head, knocking her to the ground and kicking her on the body.

The court heard that the assault was unprovoked, but in mitigation defence agent Gregor Kelly said his client had been verbally abused and her response to that had been a physical assault.
