News / Cromwell admits theft and drugs charges

A YOUNG Shetland man who admitted a string of offences at Lerwick Sheriff

Court on Wednesday is hoping for a new lease of life working in waste management in Norway.

Liam Cromwell, of 51 Burgh Road, Lerwick, admitted possessing cocaine and the recreational drug BZP at 23 Grostane, Lerwick, on 7 March this year.

The eighteen year old also pled guilty to stealing a laptop, a PlayStation console with 11 games and two Blu-Ray discs worth a total of £900 from a house at 44 Hoofields, Lerwick, on 7 April.

Cromwell got into more trouble on 19 August when the car in which he was a passenger was stopped by the police near the Black Gaet junction south of Lerwick.

In court he pled guilty to letting himself be driven in a car which had been illegally taken by someone else and perverting the course of justice by giving a false name for the driver.

Procurator fiscal Sue Foard said Cromwell had told police that the theft was carried out as “a joke” on an old friend, who had been “very disturbed” at the time but later told police he did not want the matter pursued.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said the most significant factor facing Cromwell was the prospect of his father managing to land him a job in Norway working in waste management. “It will be well paid,” he assured the court.

Sheriff Graeme Napier deferred sentence on Cromwell for two weeks while reports are prepared by the local social work department.
