New website for Sail Training Shetland
The charity behind encouraging youngsters to gain experience in sailing tall ships has launched its new website.
www.sailtrainingshetland.com has been created by NB Communication as part of a local sponsorship deal.
Sail Training Shetland has recently distributed over 1,000 information flyers to schools, youth clubs and leisure centres to help young people to find out more about the initiative and apply for annual opportunities to take part in The Tall Ships Races.
This year opportunities are available to join the local tall ship Swan and the Norwegian vessel Christian Radich during The Tall Ships Races between Kristiansand, Norway and Hartlepool, UK in August.
Drive to encourage Hep C testing in Shetland
PEOPLE in Shetland at risk of having the Hepatitis C virus are being encouraged to come forward for testing as part of a new Scottish Government campaign.
Director of public health with NHS Shetland, Dr Sarah Taylor, said: “Hepatitis C is a potentially fatal virus but one which can be cleared completely with appropriate treatment in many cases.
“Getting tested is an important first step so it is vital that anyone in the Shetland area who may have been at risk of having contracted the virus contacts their GP for testing.
“This includes anyone who has injected drugs in the past, no matter how long ago that was, people who had blood transfusions in the UK before 1992 and anyone who has shared items such as razors or needles with someone who has the virus.”
Information on testing, referral and treatment is available here: www.hepcscotland.co.uk
