OVO in isles on Wednesday to help folk save on energy bills

FOLK in Shetland will have the chance to hear about how they can save money on their energy bills and improve energy efficiency tomorrow (Wednesday).

Specialist advisers from OVO Energy will be in the isles this week, with people invited to the Sound Hall in Lerwick between 11am and 4pm on Wednesday to find out what support is available to them.

OVO will be joined by staff from Citizens Advice Bureau’s (CAB) Shetland branch and Hjaltland Housing Association.

Advisors will be on hand to assess eligibility face-to-face and help customers apply for the specific energy-saving and warming products that best suit their household needs.

OVO said depending on eligibility and a customer’s tailored package, folk could save up to £300 per year on their energy.

The OVO in the Community event is also open to non-OVO customers who are concerned about their winter bills and who are interested in receiving any energy efficiency and debt advice.

The events were launched in response to the cost of living crisis.

IncomeMax and Home Energy Scotland will also join OVO’s advisers to provide support and advice for anyone struggling or worried about paying their bills.

Shetland Islands CAB manager Della Armstrong said she was “delighted” that OVO was returning to the isles to host the community event.

“The OVO team will include billing advisers and their Shetland-based engineer, who will be available to provide information and support, alongside free energy-saving items,” she said.

“Visitors will also be able to access advice from Shetland Islands Citizens Advice Bureau, Home Energy Scotland and Hjaltland Housing Association.

“I would particularly encourage anyone who is concerned about rising energy bills and the ongoing pressure of household costs to come along.

“The event will also give people an opportunity to speak directly to OVO about any concerns or questions they may have regarding smart meter installation.”

Hjaltland’s Paul Leask said that technical and financial inclusion staff from the housing association would attend the event.

OVO’s warm home discount lead Laura Bradley added: “We know that this time of year brings immense pressure to households up and down the country.

“That’s why we’re committed to not just offering short-term relief, but delivering deep, targeted support that makes a lasting difference.

“By bringing our teams directly into the heart of communities, we can help people access the tools, advice, and financial support they need to stay warm, safe, and in control of their bills this winter.”
