Energy / SSEN investigating after over 4,000 homes lose power
SSEN IS investigating after more than 4,000 homes lost power on Thursday night during a large-scale outage across the North Mainland and North Isles.
Power was lost to around 4,200 properties at around 7.50pm last night, SSEN Distribution said.
It was then restored to all homes around 30 minutes later, at 8.26pm.
SSEN Distribution said its teams were currently working to establish the cause of the outage.
Areas of Yell, Unst, Voe, Brae and Whalsay were all affected, with SSEN saying that its control centre teams were able to remotely restore power “safely and quickly”.
A spokesperson for SSEN Distribution said: “We’d like to thank our customers across the North Mainland and Isles for their patience last night as our engineers worked quickly to restore supplies following a fault on the network.
“Everyone who lost power was back on supply around half an hour after the fault occurred, with more than half of them reconnected in around 20 minutes.”
Around 33 properties in Bigton in the South Mainland also lost power on Friday morning at around 10.15am.
SSEN said that its engineers were on the scene, and that they hoped to restore power by 4pm.
