Transport / Disruption to NorthLink sailings but freight and passenger services go ahead
TONIGHT’S (Thursday) freight and passenger sailings are to go ahead, with some changes and disruption.
The Hrossey will sail from Aberdeen at 5pm tonight, but will no longer stop at Kirkwall – sailing only for Lerwick.
Both freight sailings will also go ahead, but the Helliar will stop only in Kirkwall after leaving Lerwick at 6pm.
The Hildasay will sail from Kirkwall at 9pm, and will sail straight to Lerwick – instead of Aberdeen, as scheduled.
Tomorrow’s (Friday) freight sailings are also under review due to forecasted adverse weather.
And the Hrossey will now sail from Lerwick earlier on Friday, leaving at 4pm instead of 5.30pm.
She is due to arrive in Kirkwall at 9.30pm, before sailing on to Aberdeen.
It comes after NorthLink managing director Stuart Garrett told Shetland News that the current stretch of disruption to ferry services was the longest since Serco took over the running of the contract 13 years ago.
He said his staff were working tirelessly to make sure both the passenger and freight vessels were running whenever it was safe to do so.
