A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for Shetland, lasting for more than two days later this week.

The warning for snow and ice stretches from Tuesday at 6pm until Thursday 9pm.

The Met Office said snow showers and brisk northerly winds can be expected from late Tuesday and through Wednesday, before carrying on into Thursday.

“Significant accumulations” of snow can be expected in places, it said, with 2-5cm possible at low levels and 5-10cm of snow on hills.

“Gusty winds and perhaps a few lightning strikes may accompany some of the showers, posing as additional hazards.

“Where showers persist and/or snow partially thaws and then refreezes overnight, this will bring a risk of ice.”
