History / Wreaths laid at Lerwick War Memorial to mark Battle of Britain anniversary
WREATHS were laid at the Lerwick War Memorial this morning (Sunday) to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
The service recalled 1940, when the RAF stood against overwhelming odds to defend Britain’s skies.
Representatives of the monarchy, Shetland Islands Council, the Royal Air Force Association, the Royal British Legion – Lerwick, the Merchant Navy, and the Air Cadets, all laid wreath following a short service.
