UHI SHETLAND has shared the findings of the first phase of its Marine Restoration and Enhancement Action Plan (MREAP) for the isles.

Marine enhancement and restoration efforts aim to restore the health of ecosystems, ensuring a sustainable future for Shetland’s marine environment.

The initial phase of this project has brought together a wide range of Shetland’s voices through targeted interviews, public drop-in sessions and an online survey.

Marine scientist Tanya Riley said: “By empowering local voices, we are confident that Shetland can identify initiatives that will ensure a sustainable and resilient future for our waters, one that continues to support our marine industries and the livelihoods that they support.”

The second phase will refine prioritise actions based on the community’s feedback. An online survey is now open here.

POLICE are investigating reports of vandalism to vehicles parked in Scalloway on Friday evening.

A spokesperson said: “Between 5.30pm and 7.00pm on Friday, 17 January, 2025, we received two reports of cars vandalised in Gibblestone Road and Meadowfield Crescent, Scalloway.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting incident number 3123 of 17 January.”

THE CASH machine at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in Lerwick could move from its location at the bottom of Queen’s Lane.

A planning application lodged by RBS shows that the ATM would instead move to a wall of the western side of the building.

The existing cash machine would be removed, with the space then filled in with stone.

LOCAL charity Mind Your Head has teamed up with Haar Sauna to offer free sauna sessions in Brae to promote mental health and wellbeing.

The eight-seat sessions will be available on Thursday (23 January) between 4.30pm and 5.15pm, and 5.15pm to 6pm, with bookings available in advance.

Meanwhile the company – which also has a sauna at St Ninian’s – is now offering a pay it forward scheme where it can use donations to provide free sessions to those in need.
