Community / Cake fridge café forced to close after ‘extensive’ smoke damage

THE ORIGINAL Cake Fridge café in East Burrafirth has sustained “extensive” smoke damage after a kitchen fire over the weekend.

The “contained” fire in the kitchen occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning, with the owners having to keep the café closed to undertake “a massive deep clean” over the weekend.

The popular tearoom has remained closed today (Monday), and owner Lynn Johnson said they hoped to be back open within the next week to a fortnight.

“The smoke damage has been extensive all throughout the open plan building,” she said.

“The whole building has been stripped down of equipment and furnishings and being deep cleaned.

“We will open inside again when we feel things are suitable.”

The cake fridges outside the East Burrafirth café have remained open throughout.
