News / Big opening day wins for rugby teams

SHETLAND’s men’s and women’s rugby teams kicked off their seasons in style with big away victories over the weekend.

The men’s side romped past Aberdeen Grammar 2nd XV at Woodside on Saturday, winning by a score of 83-5.

And Shetland Valkyries similarly enjoyed opening day success, surging past Peterhead Women 24-12 on the road.

The Shetland under-16 side were also in action, succumbing 64-31 to Strathmore.

Shetland Valkyries will play their first home game of the season this weekend, hosting Highland RFC at the Clickimin on Saturday.

Meanwhile the men’s side face another away day, travelling to take on Gordonians 2nd XV.
