Council / Heat pump training unit takes trip north
A MOBILE classroom delivering certified heat pump training has arrived in Shetland.
Council staff are among those benefitting from a visit to Lerwick by the mobile unit.
A tutor from South Lanarkshire College arrived in Shetland earlier in the week in a specially adapted vehicle, with all the resources to deliver training on heat pumps, unvented hot water cylinders and water byelaws.
Shetland Islands Council (SIC) and local energy firm Nordri Ltd have nine employees taking part over the week-long training event.
Staff from the council’s estate operations team are attending the training to learn more about heat pumps as part of an overall programme of energy efficiency work on SIC properties.
The mobile centre is part of a Scottish Government initiative, led by the Energy Savings Trust, to take training to rural areas of Scotland to avoid students having to attend training centres on the Scottish mainland.
The council’s environment and estate operations manager Carl Symons said: “Training in new technologies to improve the energy efficiency of properties is in demand.
“Having this certified training delivered locally is a huge benefit for our staff and will help us with our installations to deliver on our net zero targets.”
