Twenty four year old Claire Leveque, a Canadian citizen, was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called to the remote Westside village on Sunday at around 4.55pm.
A 39-year old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incidence and is due to appear at Lerwick Sheriff Court later today (Thursday).
The Canadian foreign office has confirmed that it is aware of reports of the death of a Canadian citizen in Scotland.
“Consular officials are contacting local authorities to obtain additional information,” they said in a statement to Shetland News earlier this week.
