Police advise people to drive safely in wintry conditions
POLICE say they have had 14 road accidents reported to them in recent days due to the snowy and icy conditions.
But chief inspector Stuart Clemenson said this was only the “tip of the iceberg”, with some vehicles also abandoned on the side of roads.
Yesterday (Monday) was particularly icy given that under winter policy the council’s gritters only go out on Christmas Day to assist with emergency situations.
Gritters were back out this morning, however, with people reporting better conditions.
The advice from police remains to take care on the roads, with a key message being for motorists to slow down and to ensure that their vehicles were properly equipped for the wintry weather.
Meanwhile the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind and snow across Shetland, overnight on Wednesday (27 December) into Thursday morning.
