SHETLAND’s football team has retained the Milne cup after another high scoring match against rivals Orkney.

The blues won the hugely anticipated match 6 -1 at Gilbertson Park on Saturday afternoon with Shetland’s goals coming from Calvin Leask, Sam Maver, Liam Flaws and James Aitken (2) and Lorne McNiven.

Orkney’s consolation goal came through a penalty at the start of the second half.

Shetland was up 5-0 after 45 minutes in what was described as a “fantastic” and “unbelievable” performance of the team, particularly during the first half.

The fixture was originally scheduled for 29 July but had to be cancelled as flights were grounded due to fog.
