Emergency services / Coastguard and lifeboat respond to emergency west of Shetland
Banff registered Enterprise II now being towed to Scalloway
THE AITH lifeboat and the Sumburgh based search and rescue helicopter were called out this morning (Friday) to assist the Banff registered Enterprise II 60 nautical miles to the west of Shetland.
The fishing vessel with six crew had lost power and was drifting during the night. Shetland coastguard was first alerted at 5pm on Thursday.
Nearby fishing vessels attempted to assist overnight but were unable to restore power or provide an effective tow in the dark.
The coastguard helicopter is at the scene to provide safety cover, while a tow to Scalloway with another fishing vessel has now been established. The Aith lifeboat is providing safety cover.
A RNLI spokesperson added: “We are also grateful to the safety vessel Grampian Dynamic for moving to the scene on standby, to support the safety of all involved.”
