Community / Fresh call for CLAN volunteers

The cancer meanwhile is set to auction off its ‘light the north’ lighthouses on 1 November

CLAN Cancer Support has issued a renewed appeal for volunteers as services reopen.

The charity is particularly looking for volunteers to help bring back face-to-face emotional support and open their drop-in centres.

There are volunteer opportunities in Lerwick, as well as other parts of the north of Scotland.

Anyone interested should contact 01224 647000 or email enquiries@clancancersupport.org.

Kay Johnston.

Meanwhile CLAN recently announced the appointment of its new head of cancer support services.

Kay Johnston, who was previously a senior social worker, will lead and develop the charity’s services throughout the north-east of Scotland and Northern Isles.

Part of her role will be overseeing the charity’s Aberdeen bed and breakfast facility, Clan Haven, which has often been used by islanders.

Johnston said: “Clan has such a presence across the north-east and Northern Isles and it’s an exciting time to join as we move out of lockdown and services can start to resume.

“I’m looking forward to being an instrumental part of Clan’s journey to bring further support to those affected by a cancer diagnosis.”

Meanwhile the CLAN ‘light the north’ lighthouses which have been in show across the north of Scotland – including in the likes of Lerwick and Scalloway – are due to be auctioned.

The lighthouses have provided a splash of colour, but they will go under the hammer to raise money for CLAN.

The auction will take place on Monday 1 November in Inverurie. People can register their interest here.
