Community / Most northerly fire festivals postponed
BOTH Up Helly Aa fire festivals in Britain’s most northern island community have now been postponed due to the ongoing uncertainties surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.
The committees of the Uyeasound and Norik Up Helly Aas took to Facebook on Thursday to announce their decision.
Dates for 2022 have not been announced yet but traditionally the Uyeasound festival is celebrated on second Friday in February and the Norik event on a Saturday at the end of February.
The two events follow Scalloway, Lerwick, Nesting/Girlsta and Bressay in their decision to postpone the popular community events by a year.
