Community / Bikers’ rally called off due to virus
THE SIMMER Dim bikers’ rally has become the latest large event to be cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The event, now in its 38th year, was due to take place in Ollaberry in June.
The committee said that while it is “devastating news, we must be sensible and take on board the current evolving situation in regards to coronavirus and minimise the risk of spread to those vulnerable and with health conditions”.
The event is a popular draw for bikers both from Shetland and around the world.
It comes after events such as Shetland Folk Festival and the Shetland Classic Motor Show were called off.
On Monday the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Shetland rose to 15.
NHS Shetland has now activated its pandemic disease plan which will see the health board put “all resources” into responding to the outbreak.
