Court / Prison for man who threatened to rape and kill his ex
A MAN has been imprisoned for nine months at Lerwick Sheriff Court for breaching bail conditions and threatening his then ex-partner in a row outside her house in Aberdeenshire.
(Name and address removed under Rights to be forgotten rules) appeared from custody to admit four charges relating to the incident which took place on 9 April 2017.
Procurator Fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said that the man had only been released on bail for five days when he broke a condition to keep away from the woman, who was living with their five-and-a-half month old son.
MacKenzie said the man went to the house at 2am and started shouting, swearing and threatening to rape and kill his partner.
He pounded and kicked on the doors and windows of the house, making his ex so afraid that she called police and hid in a wardrobe in the bedroom with the baby and a pet dog.
Neighbours also heard his outburst where he punched and kicked the woman’s car and broke a house window with his hand, injuring himself.
When two police showed up he was so aggressive they called for backup and a baton had to be drawn before he “went to the ground and was restrained and arrested”.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client had been drinking heavily as he believed that his ex had been unfaithful and was “heartbroken” before the incident.
The couple had since reconciled and were “committed to the future” of their child, who is approaching the age of two. He had not offended since.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said that the case was unusual in that it was being heard in Lerwick for offences in Aberdeenshire. The man continued to travel between the addresses there and in Lerwick.
He sentenced him to two months in prison for breaching his bail condition to keep away from his ex-partner.
