News / Aberdeen airport closed

FLIGHTS to Aberdeen airport have been grounded after a small hole was found on the runway on Thursday afternoon.

Aberdeen Airport said that the hole is believed to have been caused by the excessive rainfall over the last days. Repairs are under way.

Meanwhile some departures have taken place from a shortened runway but most flights have been cancelled.

The afternoon flight from Sumburgh to Aberdeen has been diverted to Inverness and the aircraft has been refueled in the hope to fly the passengers to Aberdeen later tonight.

A spokesman for Loganair said they were hoping to get all passengers to their destinations but added that the situation was outwith their control.
