News / Homophobia charge

A MAN from Glasgow accused of making homophobic remarks towards a worker on an accommodation vessel berthed in Scalloway had his case continued without plea at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

Lee Fitzpatrick, 25, of Glenacre Gardens, Castlemilk, allegedly made the comments on board the MV Gemini at Blacksness Pier in the early hours of Monday.

Court papers state that Fitzpatrick swore at the man, while on Sunday he is said to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by uttering threats and verbal abuse at the man.

It is also alleged that he directed threats of violence towards two other workers on board the ship.

The case was continued until 1 April to allow Fitzpatrick to seek legal representation.

He was granted bail with special conditions that he does not contact any of the complainers and must leave Shetland, only returning for court appearances.
