Letters / Heartache and misery

I am not a lawyer but I have been looking at children’s rights and came across this. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children (UNCRC) is an international agreement which consists of 42 articles detailing the human rights of children.

It states that “parents have the responsibility to look after their children ensuring that they are given health care when required and encouraging their growth, development and welfare. It is a child’s right to receive this support from their parents.” Article 12 makes it clear that every child has the right to say what they think in all matters affecting them and to have their views taken seriously. Article 3 states that the best interests of the child must be the primary consideration in all actions concerning children.

The document also says that parents have the responsibility to ensure that their children are given suitable education. They have the right to have their children live with them or the right to decide where their children should live. Article 2 states that all rights guaranteed by the UNCRC must be available to all children without discrimination of any kind.

This information has been copied from the Scottish Governments’s website  regarding children, young people, families and advocacy. Below I have provided the link for further information. http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/People/Young-People/families/advocacy/introduction

What the council is doing is wrong. They are causing a lot of heartache and misery. Stop tearing apart communities and listen to what the children have to say. Make their best interests your primary consideration.
