News / Drove carelessly

A TWENTY two year old man has admitted driving carelessly on a Shetland road on 2 January this year.

Paul Forrest, of Semblister, Bixter, pled guilty to the charge, which related to an incident on the B9084 road between East Voe and the Burra bridge, when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

The court heard that he had tailgated the vehicle immediately in front of him before overtaking and then braked “severely” for no good reason. Forrest’s vehicle came to a halt in the middle of the road, forcing traffic behind him to brake excessively.

He committed the offence while subject to an undertaking to appear in court on a separate charge.

Forrest was fined £500 and nine points will be imposed on his driving licence once he gets it back in early 2015.

Earlier this year Forrest was banned from the road after admitting drink driving in Lerwick on 22 December.
