News / Business conference

A ONE-DAY conference to discuss the future of Shetland’s service industry will take place at the Shetland Museum and Archives, this Saturday.

The event mainly targets small and micro business owners as well as those who consider starting up a new enterprise.

One of the organisers, Roy Longmuir of Shetland Consulting, said it was all about making the most from a “number of new opportunities” such as:

  • the current high profile exposure of Shetland on BBC and Commercial TV;

  • imminent large construction projects which will increase the Shetland population;

  • the Homecoming Scotland 2014 event;

  • imminent changes in NHS procurement policy;

  • action by Scottish and UK governments to improve the retail experience for UK high street shoppers;

  • and the significant improvements in communications between Shetland and the rest of the world.

The conference kicks off at 9.30am and is expected to run until 3.30pm. Participation is free of charge.
