Police arrest drink driver

SHETLAND police arrested a 21 year old man on Tuesday for driving whilst disqualified and other road traffic offences in the Walls area.

Police are also investigating a break in at a house in the Stanegarth area of Lerwick around midday on Wednesday and ask for any information from the public to help their enquiries.

Flag hand over

SHETLAND Islands Council has received £4,000 from EventScotland to help stage a Commonwealth Games flag handover celebration in Clickimin Leisure Centre next month.

Active schools manager Philipp Ashley-Smith hopes to attract as many as 500 pupils from schools across the isles for the two events on 5 and 6 October.

The local celebrations, a week ahead of the real handover in Delhi, are part of the build up towards the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in four years time.

Mr Ashley Smith said the day in the Clickimin would include a symbolic handover ceremony and introductions to three different Commonwealth Games sports.
