‘Outstanding contribution’ over 40 years celebrated by Lerwick Port Authority
Stephen Breivik has worked with port authority since leaving school
LERWICK Port Authority (LPA) has celebrated the “outstanding contribution” of worker Stephen Breivik after he reached the milestone of 40 years of service.
Breivik joined the LPA straight from school in August 1986 as a joiner’s assistant. He later joined the on-call shore team before becoming a temporary boatman in 2001/02.
In 2004 he permanently joined the crews of the authority’s vessels Knab and Kebister.
The LPA said that during his career Brieivik had seen plenty of change, both within the port and across the maritime industry.
However he said one thing had remained constant, which was the importance of the people he has worked alongside and the camaraderie that comes from working with a close-knit team.
Port authority chief executive Captain Calum Grains said that 40 years of service was a “remarkable achievement”.
“We are delighted to celebrate this milestone with Stephen,” Captain Grains said.
“Throughout his career, Stephen has adapted to change while bringing commitment and a wealth of experience to his work. His knowledge and good humour are greatly appreciated by colleagues.
“There is also something particularly special about marking 40 years when his father, Alan, also gave 40 years of service to the authority.”
The Lerwick Port Authority congratulated Breivik and thanked him for his “long-standing commitment, service and contribution to the organisation”.
