A THREE-DAY running festival is set to return for a second year later this month after a successful debut in 2025.

RunFest will return from 20-22 August 2026, bringing together races, seminars and coaching, and with something for every runner.

The event was set up last year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Shetland running group ZE Run and included a mass 10km race through Lerwick to mark the milestone.

This year, RunFest will begin on Thursday 20 August with a coached session looking at running technique, which will prepare runners for a handicapped hill race up Staney Hill.

There will then be a talk with local legend Michelle Sandison entitled: “In it for the long run”.

One of Shetland’s best and most decorated runners for over 30 years, Sandison will be talking all things running and racing.

She will also discuss the highs and lows that come with competing at a national level and will give some practical tips on how you can improve your running too.

Friday night will see the return of the 10km fun run through Lerwick, with a scenic route taking in the town’s sights and sounds. Neil Arthur will look to defend his title from 2025, with Alina Murray the women’s champion after the inaugural race last year.

On Saturday there will be a new 3km handicap race at the Clickimin Loch, giving each runner an equal chance to come first.

It will also double as a team event, with prizes on offer once again.

Other speakers over the weekend will be Bruce McCulloch and Russell Gair of GymGair.

McCulloch, from Podiatry Shetland, will talk about common foot injuries runners encounter, and how you can treat them.

Russell Gair is talking marathon essentials, including key training sessions, pacing strategies, nutrition and the importance of recovery.

RunFest is suitable for all runners, and you can choose to run the races or cheer the other runners on.

There are still spaces available, and you can find more information at www.gymgair.co.uk or on their social media sites.

RunFest 2025 marked a decade of the ZE Run group, organised by Linda and Russell Gair of GymGair, which meets every Thursday and encourages runners to remain committed and inspired by their fellow members.
