Court / Man banned after admitting drink-driving offence
A MAN has been disqualified for 16 months and fined £600 after admitting a drink driving charge.
Gheorghita Serban, 26, was found to be driving a van on Lerwick’s Commercial Road and Burgh Road on 15 March with 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The limit is 22 microgrammes.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday that police received a report of possible drink-driving from a member of the public.
Police stopped Serban, of Lerwick’s South Road, and undertook a roadside screening test, which he failed.
Mackenzie said the man, who was taken to Lerwick Police Station, fully cooperated with police.
Serban, representing himself, said he was moving his vehicle but acknowledged he should not have done so.
He said he would lose his job if disqualified from driving, but Sheriff Philip Mann said he had no other option than to impose a ban.
