Emergency services / Future Sumburgh helicopter type lands in Lerwick
THE TYPE of coastguard helicopter which is set to replace the existing Sumburgh-based Sikorsky S-92 touched down in Lerwick for a visit earlier today (Saturday).
The Leonardo AW189 flew from Glasgow to the Clickimin this morning with a specialist medical team for delivery to the Gilbert Bain Hospital.
The AW189 helicopter is the type which will be replacing the Sumburgh based S92 helicopter later in 2026 as part of a new search and rescue contract from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
