Letters / We already have the autonomy we want

The recent ‘autonomy event’ claims to have revealed new ideas. Are those promoting “more autonomy” wilfully stupid, or do they have an agenda to keep us in our place?

Unless they feel themselves above the law, they must abide by it. It is so simple, a child could understand it.

The Laws of Scotland state that the Crown’s sovereignty over Scotland is the same as its ownership of the land. It is emphatic. It says they are the same thing, identical concepts. I have never seen such an emphatic statement in any law book.

That’s fine for Scotland, but the Crown does not, and never could have had ownership of Shetland’s land. Therefore it does not, and never has had sovereignty here. It has all been done by presumption, fear and intimidation over the centuries – to the point where, apparently, nobody has the balls to even question it.

Shetland has been conned at the highest level and they thought they’d got away with it, but nobody is above the law.

Working out strategies to decide what we should ask for betrays the people of Shetland. We have sovereignty in the most complete sense, but the wool has been pulled over our eyes. Let’s have some clarity and honesty and face the reality.

We already have all the autonomy we could wish for. All we need to do is remove the wool from our eyes. What we need is a no wool week!
