Letters / Lerwick 4G repairs scheduled for October
Thank you for taking up the case with broadband outages we are currently experiencing in Shetland.
As well as no broadband at present, we also have a longer-term 4G service problem in Lerwick which has ground to a halt and means that any backup service is also down (we have Vodafone broadband + 4G backup and neither working).
Many neighbours and friends have complained over several months about poor 4G in Lerwick and I decided to get to the bottom of it.
After hours of being sent round Vodafone teams, I eventually got confirmation that a fault is registered and there is currently no 4G.
The advisor said the repair will take place on 15th October 2025 which is over 3 months away!
I asked for this in writing and received this useful text from Vodafone earlier on as follows;
CRQ number?CRQ000001097535

Change start date?11:00 07 Jul 2025
Change end date?20:00 15 Oct 2025
I am rather shocked that Lerwick 4G can be so bad, and wonder if you could help publicise this poor service, and that every mobile phone user in Lerwick will be entitled to compensation if they report the 4G fault from when it was first reported.
I fear the problem will only be taken seriously if a large number of people start to report this situation.
Incidentally, Vodafone’s own service checking app mentions 4G Maintenance Scheduled (no further info available) but the map happily displays all green for good 4G signal.
