A WEEK of international yacht activity in Lerwick Harbour is underway after the arrival of Dutch boats taking part in the North Sea Triangle event.
The yachts began to arrive on Monday, sailing at their own pace. They are expected to depart on Thursday (19 June).
Then on Thursday afternoon boats in the Bergen-Shetland race are expected to arrive after their crossing from Norway.
FIREFIGHTERS were called to a small fire in Lerwick’s Harbour Street today (Tuesday).
Three appliances, from Lerwick and Scalloway, attended the scene shortly after 1pm, along with an ambulance.
Crews worked to extinguish the fire and make the area safe, and there were no casualties reported.
THE YELL Sound ferry is running with a single vessel over the coming days following a crew shortage on the Bluemull Sound vessel Bigga.
It will be single vessel today (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday.
The service will be operating to the shift vessel timetable and all bookings are suspended from 6am to 6pm. Normal service will resume each night at 6.05pm and bookings will be valid from then.
A LOGANAIR plane experienced a technical fault shortly after landing at Aberdeen Airport on Monday afternoon.
The airline confirmed there was a “technical event” on the charter flight at around 4pm.
All passengers and crew disembarked the plane safely, and it was taken to the Loganair hanger for inspection by the airline’s engineering team.
Flights to and from Aberdeen were temporarily suspended during the incident.
MEANWHILE Loganair has said there is “no update” on the possibility of flights between Kirkwall and Fair Isle returning.
Loganair was asked whether flights between Orkney and Fair Isle could resume following the recent opening of the new Fair Isle Bird Observatory.
But the airline responded only to say that there was “no update on this development at the moment”.

Loganair previously said in 2023 that it was planning to resume flights between Fair Isle and Kirkwall when the island’s bird observatory reopened following 2019’s devastating fire.
POLICE officers in Shetland are now being equipped with bodyworn cameras as part of a roll-out in the Highlands and Islands.
The roll-out of the equipment got underway in the region today (Tuesday).
Police Scotland said the cameras can help to de-escalate incidents, improve public trust in policing and reduce complaints, as well as support officer and staff safety, and bring wider benefits to the criminal justice system.
PEOPLE across the Highlands and Islands are being asked to celebrate their “high street heroes”.
Nominations have opened for the 2025 Scotland Loves Local Awards, celebrating the people and organisations who make communities better places to live, work and visit.
Residents are being encouraged to nominate people to be named as a ‘High Street Hero’ for the Highlands and Islands.
