Education / Fire service called to Scalloway school after smoke seen coming from boiler
STAFF and pupils at Scalloway Primary School were temporarily evacuated this morning (Thursday) when a fault with the boiler produced smoke.
Fire appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded and attended the school.
A spokesperson for Shetland Islands Council said the boiler has since been shut down and everyone is now back in the building.
The school remains open for the rest of the day but currently has no heating while a safety inspection takes place on the heating system and any repairs are carried out.
Following repairs this afternoon, the school’s boiler is now working again as normal and the school, nursery and games hall will all be open tomorrow (Friday). Parents and carers have been contacted by the school directly.
A ‘learning walk’ scheduled at the primary school between 2.30pm and 4.30pm will go ahead as planned.
