Letters / Open letter to councillors: why is there still no financial bond in place?

The community still await the long overdue reassurance of a financial bond in respect of the Viking Energy project.

This was a condition of the planning consent, required before the project commenced and should be sufficient to meet all costs of decommissioning and restoration.

The fact that SSE is currently in discussion with SIC with the aim of repurposing one of the VE compounds into a carpark in the middle of nowhere, in an area regarded as an accident blackspot, is evidence of their blatant disregard for the community and of the hope to avoid any restoration where possible.

As councillors, you have a duty to represent the community and we have been badly let down in this matter.

It’s time to put this right and ensure that we are given this legally binding reassurance.
