Police / Main road opens again after accident

Motorists advised to take extra care on the roads during the spell of windy weather

THE A970 road near Brindister has reopened following a two-vehicle accident which involved an empty trailer being caught by strong winds.

Emergency services attended and a woman was taken to hospital in Lerwick for treatment. Her injuries are thought not to be serious.

The accident occurred when the trailer towed by one of the two vehicles involved was caught by the gale force westerly winds and hit the other vehicle.

Police said emergency crews experienced difficulties during the recovery operation due to the strong winds.

Chief inspector Stuart Clemenson said the advice to motorists in the current condition was to “take care on the roads until this current storm passes over”.
