Letters / Thanks for agreeing with us, James!

Many thanks to James Paton for his letter today (Monday) highlighting the campaign for inter-island tunnels here in Shetland – and the need for an end to centralisation.

Mair pleepsin’

I am glad that we can agree that the centralisation we have seen under the SNP/Green coalition should be stopped and reversed. My party has always campaigned and will continue to campaign for powers over local services to go back to our communities.

I am glad, too, that we can agree that the time has come to push ahead with tunnel links – something that has agreement whatever your political persuasion.

There is a growing campaign for action in the isles and this week’s events will be part of taking us on the next step.

Any and all who want to participate will be welcome, this week and beyond. The events are as follows:

  • Monday 21 August 2023: Yell, Cullivoe Public Hall, 18:15 – 19:30
  • Tuesday 22 August 2023, Fetlar, Fetlar Hall, 12:15 – 13:30
  • Tuesday 22 August 2023, Unst, Baltasound Public Hall, 18:00 – 19:15
  • Wednesday 23 August 2023, Whalsay, Symbister Public Hall, 18:30 – 19:45
  • Thursday 24 August 2023, Bressay, Bressay Public Hall, 17:30 – 18:45
