SANDWICK Junior High School is closed today (Friday) following a burst pipe in the building’s reception area.

The school said on social media that the burst pipe meant the fire alarm system was not able to operate.

Initially it said it would not be able to fully open until at least 11am, with pupils on buses gathered in the games hall. Parents were told the HE exam would still go ahead.

But the school later confirmed it would have stay shut for the day. “We would ask parents and carers of children and young people who have already arrived at school to make arrangements to collect them,” a Facebook post said.

“If any parent or carer is unable to collect their child(ren) could they please contact the school office. Please be assured all the children in school are safe and will remain in school until we hear from you.”
