Nature / In pictures: sperm whale on the move

EFFORTS are continuing to encourage the sperm whale in Whiteness Voe back out to sea.

The large whale has been in the voe for over a week and were fears it would strand itself.

Experts said that “all options” would be considered to encourage it back out to sea, and in a controlled operation two boats arrived on scene on Tuesday – with the whale moving southwards.

More boats have been used today (Wednesday) in a bid to encourage the whale away from the shore.
