Coronavirus / Recent Covid case returned negative result in follow-up test
A CONFIRMED Covid case recently added to Shetland’s tally returned a negative result in a follow-up test.
NHS Shetland interim director of public health Dr Susan Laidlaw said no contact tracing was required.
However the person and their household still went into isolation.
The case was included in Tuesday’s Scottish Government update. It was the first time since mid-April that a new case was recorded in Shetland.
Dr Laidlaw said at the time it emerged through asymptomatic testing and a repeat test was due to be carried out by the local Gilbert Bain Hospital laboratory to confirm if it was a “new case”.
Speaking on Thursday in a media briefing, Dr Laidlaw said the follow up test was more sensitive than the original one and returned a negative result.
She said this happens from “time to time”.
Despite the negative result, the case will still be included in the Scottish Government tally of cumulative cases for Shetland.
