Community / BT apologises after map mishap places Lerwick and Scalloway in wrong location
Spokesperson says ‘we’ve asked Santa for a new atlas to keep us right’
SHETLAND is well known for getting a raw deal when it comes to maps – with the isles being put in a box off the coast of Scotland a traditional bugbear.
BT has now apologised after a map of Shetland included in the company’s new phonebook shows Scalloway and Lerwick located in and around the north mainland.
The mishap was printed in the 2020/21 Aberdeen and Shetland phonebook, which has been dropping through people’s letterboxes.
The small map for Shetland only points out two locations in the isles – Scalloway and Lerwick.
However, in a production error the former is pictured as being located near to Sullom Voe Terminal, while the capital is shown as in being located between the mainland and Yell.
A spokesperson for BT said in response: “Well spotted, sorry for any confusion.
“We’ll get the location markers fixed in the next edition and we’ve asked Santa for a new atlas to keep us right.”
