Marine / New electronic auction system trialled at fishmarkets

A brand new electronic auction system enjoyed its first outing at the Lerwick and Scalloway fishmarkets on Wednesday.

Martin Leyland of Shetland Seafood Auctions said they chose to trial the system, called Kosmos, on a day of lighter landings and “it seemed to work very well”.

It incorporates an app which allows buyers to bid remotely or while inspecting species on the market floors. Leyland added: “It really finishes off the opening of the two new markets.”
