A SHETLANDER working in the oil and gas industry has been given the Energy Industries Council’s first Rising Star MBA Award.
Daniel Gear will now receive full tuition fees of £16,500 to study a master of business administration (MBA) in oil and gas management on an executive part-time basis at Robert Gordon University’s Garthdee campus in Aberdeen.
He picked up the rising star prize at Energy Industries Council’s national awards dinner in London last week.
Gear, who works for Petrofac in Aberdeen, said after the ceremony that he was delighted – and surprised – to win.
The Energy Industries Council is the “leading trade association providing dedicated services to help members understand, identify and pursue business opportunities globally”.
“To hear that I was even being recognised by an organisation like EIC as a finalist was incredibly exciting,” Gear said.
“I really thought that was as far as I would get, especially after I met the other seven finalists on the night, all truly high calibre individuals doing amazing things for their companies. But to win the award and the scholarship, it’s just incredible.
“The course is world-renowned, it’s transformational. But, it’s one thing to win the scholarship, it’s another thing altogether to work through an MBA. The hard work starts now.”
Dave Blackburn, senior vice president of Petrofac’s engineering and production services west, commented: “The EIC’s Rising Star MBA award demonstrates that by providing employees with the right personal development, technical training and career support, organisations can generate a succession of talent.
